The Rock Did Not Move

We live in a time where men try to explain the unexplainable. Who
can describe the power of the natural world that surrounds us? We
may feel like the ruler of our domain, but the domain can change
from a demure servant to a devilish destructor.

An earthquake that lasted almost ten minutes at the floor of the sea
created a tsunami that washed over two continents and killed
hundreds of thousands.

Just last week we found out a Greater than Camille had come. Trees
that had stood as stalwart sentries of time, found themselves ripped
up from the roots and cast away. Their only memory is a pile of
brush to be carted away and burned. To witness the mighty waters
of the ocean as they rose 2 feet, five feet, to rise beyond thirty
feet in some areas. Buildings of a prior generation, pride of the
wealthy and mighty find themselves in the same heap of.

The hopes and dreams, substance and life of the rich and poor find
themselves as so much debri in a storm that struck with such
ferocity, men have been comparing it to a nuclear bomb.

The loss, the extreme loss of life in this catastrophe is beyond
explanation. These events challenge us to consider our frame and
our faith.

We realize that life is fragile and we are so much cordwood in the
face and fury that is found within the grasp of nature. Our Frame
is weak, limited and impotent.

However, our faith is firm. I heard it over and over as people
rescued from rooftops and the water, "I thank God to be alive."
Over and over, you heard the praise in the mouth of the poor, giving
thanks for the precious commodity that cannot be bought and sold.

Mens effort to hold back the water have and will fail. However
God's ability to bring comfort and peace when the storm rages
remains intact.

The arm of flesh will fail you and the reach of government will come
up short, but the Long Arm of God is not short or weak, but long and
strong.

I was reminded of the parable of the wise and foolish builder. One
built his house on sand and the other on a rock. My faith is not
going to be built on the shifting sands of government or political
powers that be, but my faith and hope is on Christ the Solid Rock.

Your world may be shaken, house may be damaged, finances in
shambles, but the object of true Faith is intact.

In Him, By Him, Through Him,

Romans 8:22-28 KJV For we know that the whole creation groaneth and
travaileth in pain together until now. (23) And not only they, but
ourselves also, which have the first fruits of the Spirit, even we
ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit,
the redemption of our body. (24) For we are saved by hope: but hope
that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope
for? (25) But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with
patience wait for it. (26) Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our
infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought:
but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings
which cannot be uttered. (27) And he that searcheth the hearts
knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh
intercession for the saints according to the will of God. (28) And
we know that all things work together for good to them that love
God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Psalms 46:1-3 KJV God is our refuge and strength, a very present
help in trouble. (2) Therefore will not we fear, though the earth
be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of
the sea; (3) Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though
the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.

Ministers

Ministers are to serve the people of the Churches and to teach the Gospel of Christ.

Second they are to be a servant all people Next he is to Preach the Gospel of Christ and that is to Love all people of all the earth.

Now the two Commandment's that he gave us is to Love GOD with all your Heart, soul and mind.

Second one is to Love your neighbor as yourself this is not the way it is in the Bible but to get the Bible verse go to Matt. 23:37-40 that is the two commandment's that JESUS CHRIST to us all and I believe it is to be thought that way and money is said to be the root to all evil, but that is not how I read it.

The love of money is the root so Love in that way is not good at all. We need to put all our Faith in the LORD and not in Money.

You may say I say that because I don't have any that is the true at this time, but it has not always been like that.

It is now I am happy now that I learn that money doesn't make me love any better.

Only true love is when you thrust in the LORD and him only I thank you very much for the time that was given to me and i THANK YOU MORE THAN YOU KNOW.

The Fundamentalist

New Article...The Fundamentalist

Greetings my friends,

If only the British and American people could find just one real-life savior in the likeness of James Bond and Jack Bauer, the Islamic Fundamentalists around the world would be forced to reform themselves and make peace with Israel and the Western powers, or be utterly destroyed. The immense popularity of these two fictional characters, who single-handedly defeat evildoers, certainly reveals the hopes and dreams of many people in America. And nothing would please the Fundamentalists of Christendom more than to see Islam's "culture of death" reformed and brought into the community of peaceful nations, so that their sons in the military will no longer be...in harm's way.

What does the future hold for Fundamentalists of all religions? Will there be more war or compromise and peace? Is there a real-life Jack Bauer or James Bond, having a sword in one hand and a olive branch in the other, coming to save and bring peace to the world? Is he here already? I have posted to our web site my latest article "The Fundamentalist" which, among many other things, defines what it means to be a Christian Fundamentalist. I have copied below seven excerpts from the article:

-----------------------------------------------

(1) What is absolutely fascinating is the latest Islamic prophecy news coming out Iran. Apparently the news is spreading quickly in Iran and other places that the long awaited Islamic Messiah, the Mahdi, is returning soon to bring peace and a New World Order, and harsh judgment upon those who refuse to go along with his kingdom plans. From what I have read the Mahdi will not be alone when he makes his appearance. He will be accompanied by his sidekick, Jesus himself, who will be to the Mahdi what Tonto was to the Lone Ranger. Can you believe this mingling of Mahdi and Jesus is happening before our eyes. What does all this mean in relationship to the trouble in the Middle East? Will the feud between the Sunnis and Shiites be settled by this coming together of Mahdi and Jesus? Does this news signal a coming change in the behavior of Iran and Syria, even Osama Bin Laden? Or will there have to be more regime changing wars first?

I just can't stop asking relevant questions. What will be the response of Christendom to this emerging news from Iran? I am especially interested in how the Christian Fundamentalists and Evangelicals will respond to the Fundamentalists of Islam. So far, they have been the greatest patriotic supporters of President Bush's Middle East policies and the War on Terror. How will President Bush, a professing born again Christian, react to this sensational prophecy out of Iran? Are we finally beginning to see some ray of hope for peace in the Middle East by this news? Is it possible that Iran's President will repeal his call for wiping Israel off the map, if the Jews and Christians go along with the Mahdi and Jesus connection? Or, as I asked, will there have to be a regime change first, either from within or by war?

As I understand all of this, whether there are any more regime changing wars or not, the days are soon coming when peace will break out in the Holy Land. What if the next thing that happens to the Mullahs in Tehran is the announcement that Mary, the mother of Jesus, has somehow contacted or appeared unto them, asking them to love and make peace with the Jews and Christians, and help them bring about the Kingdom of Heaven on the Earth? Are you aware that Islam highly esteems Mary, and she is mentioned many times in the Koran?

I know these questions about and comments on the Islamic prophecies will cause ridicule and laughter in some, hostility in others, but something must take place to break the deadlock or ice in the current War on Terror with the jihadist madmen of Islam, or else millions will die in a nuclear exchange. Some are saying it will take a nuclear explosion somewhere killing millions to so deepen the fear in mankind that peace will be demanded everywhere. My question, and I am sure that of most Western leaders, to all Islamic Fundamentalists who are waging this seemingly eternal war with us infidels, is this. Will you settle for a "spiritual" coming of the Mahdi and Jesus, working their kingdom magic in and through the Presidents of Russia and America, that has the endorsement of the Pope and Mullahs in Tehran? Please read the article "The Judgment Chronicles" posted on our web site for how most American Fundamentalists and Evangelicals will eventually respond to the coming Peace Covenant of the Middle East. What you will read there is not pleasant or heartwarming, and has moved me to write this article on the Fundamentalist.

-----------------------------------------------

(2) My Jewish friends should know and understand that soon this shallow alliance with America will disappear and once again Jews around the world will be persecuted by the new Roman Empire. Aren't the Jewish and Christian Fundamentalists in Israel and America both choosing the ways of Barabbas and rejecting the cross of Jesus when they take up the power of arms to defeat their enemies?

----------------------------------------------

(3) The glorious second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ concludes what the Fundamentalists of the early 20th century considered to be the essential doctrines one must hold to be considered a Christian. With the obvious exception of the second coming, if any of these teachings were omitted or redefined in any way one's salvation was in question. This leads me to ask the most important questions of all the ones I have asked in this article. After reading and thinking seriously about this list of doctrines, is there anything missing from this list? Is it possible to believe in these six foundational teachings of the New Testament and still be eternally lost with a one-way ticket to Hell?

-----------------------------------------------

(4) Do you also see the danger now? The seducing doctrine of "in non-essentials we have liberty and tolerance" is designed by the fallen angels working through false or ignorant teachers to make the "meat" of the scriptures, which are designed to strengthen us in Christ and against evil forces and false prophets, something no one really cares about anyway, for it is just a matter of opinion and interpretation. These false or misguided teachers cry out for tolerance and liberty in non-essentials "because" strict interpretation only causes division at a time when Christendom wants "ecumenical" unity in their political-religious-military crusades to take "dominion" over the nations. For those among you who have been seduced into this deadly trap I suggest you also read Mathew 24:45-51. Now let's move on to the three missing foundational doctrines:

----------------------------------------------

(5) I have often wondered why early Fundamentalists neglected to include the role of the fallen angels in their essentials for salvation. Even today there is very little mention of them and how they have impacted the human race. I suppose the reason is because not many people have experienced face to face encounters with these fallen creatures of God. From what I have learned from the scriptures and my personal battles with these evil beings, this uncomfortable subject needs to be included as one of the fundamental doctrines of Jesus Christ. Trust me when I say that the day is coming when the most vile of the fallen angels will publicly appear in their grotesque form and all men shall see them, while Satan and others will possess the bodies of men, Revelation 9,13. And when they do appear, the Lord Jesus Christ will also allow Michael and his holy angels to manifest themselves before men. John's visions recorded in the Revelation provide ample evidence for what I have said. Please read the articles "When Angels Appear" and "The Judgment Chronicles" posted on our web site, for more details on this subject.

------------------------------------------------

(6) There remains one final piece to the Fundamentalist puzzle. I refer to it this way for without this last doctrine you are still holding on to a "form of godliness" and even though you can quote scripture verses as a seminary professor, you still are without the free gift of the Holy Spirit. And Paul said to the Roman Christians that if any man has not the Spirit of Christ he is not a true Christian, Romans 8:9.

-------------------------------------------------

(7) Mother's cancer was now taking its toll. She couldn't eat and was under heavy medications to ease her pain. My two sisters, Linda and Jo, and I were always at her bed side. We knew it was now a matter of hours, not days, when our mother would pass from this life into Heaven. Her last words to me before she slipped into a deep sleep were..."Jack, I want to go home and be with Jesus". As we were sitting in the hospital room I picked up the Bible and began reading in the Psalms, knowing words of great comfort were there. Mother loved the 23rd Psalm.

Her breathing became very difficult as her body was shutting down. I was now reading in Psalms 48 and I came to the last verse which said...."For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our "guide" even unto death". When I finished reading that verse, I looked up and towards the bed, and saw my mother take her last breath. Then it was like an angel had entered the room and lifted me up from the chair with my hands held high in the air, as I began to weep and cry out to the Lord Jesus. My dear sisters stood with me, and we knew that our mother's soul had left her body and was looking at her children one last time before her angel would escort her into the presence of the risen Lord Jesus Christ. My mother's simple faith and absolute love for her Lord and all people, forever defined for me the essence of true Christian fundamentalism.

The Power of Faith
By Scott Phillips
2005-10-02

Sometimes we fail to appreciate the power of faith in our life.

Faith is not always something you can put your finger on or describe in long sentences. Faith at times reaches beyond a certain task or attainment, but it is a deep-seated knowing that you are destined and ordained according to the purpose of God.

This fingerprints of Gods hand on your spirit causes you to look forward and reach beyond current realities into a place of faith. I have seen it to be true in my own life, as things have unfolded, I did not know where the turn of events would bring me, however I felt this sense of trust that God was working in the details and in the
end it would be best for me and his purpose in my life.

Often we don't have a map of where we are going. We just walk by faith. We just live by faith. Through whatever life brings us, we just walk in what we know and eventually the path leads us to what
God has planned.

Imagine the men who are the heroes of faith we lionize and herald as the examples of faith. Imagine the internal strains they endured on the journey to that place of completed faith.

If you feel the turmoil of faith arguing with doubt, you are in good company. You can see this strain in the words of Jesus as he prayed those words, "Lord, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me." Three days later he would be walking in a glorified body, fulfilling his purpose, however the strain on the human soul in
those times where pressure meets our need for preservation and security, is not easy.

However, Faith in it's most infantile state has the power to propel you through to that place of purpose. It may not seem rapid and you may not feel robust, but in a few blinks of time, you will be glad you allowed faith to be the voice you listened to.

In my mind I see a board room full Big Shadows with strong voices of reason arguing for abandoning the purpose and then I hear and see a small child who raises his hand and simply says, "I believe we should continue.."

That childlike voice is faith. As we have grown in wisdom and experience, lets not ignore the voice of faith when we make decisions.

Faith.

In Him, By Him, Through Him,

Scott Phillips

My Call to Ministry

My call to ministry came thirty years ago when I was still serving in the United States Air Force in Colorado Springs, but my spiritual journey started long before.  I was raised in the Seventh-day Adventist Church and was educated in their school system through college.  I was planning to follow the family tradition by becoming a Seventh-day Adventist minister as my father, grandfather, and great-grandfather had been.  Fortunately, I entered active military service in 1971 during the Vietnam conflict and volunteered for duty in Southeast Asia.  Naturally, to honor my wishes, I was sent to Alaska.  There, I began reading about Eastern philosophy and studying the Tibetan Book of the Dead.  I also converted to the Catholic Faith, largely because I had been told as a child that Roman Catholics had torture chambers in their churches, preparing to torture Seventh-day Adventists, so I set out to find the torture chambers.  Instead, I made some wonderful friends and discovered an inspirational form of worship.  As the years passed, I continued to study Eastern religion while I attended Mass every Sunday.
In 1975, I was transferred to Colorado Springs to close down Ent Air Force Base and move on to Peterson Air Force Base.  My first summer there, I had a training and was partnered with a Buddhist, who invited me to attend his worship.  I did, they fed me, and I stayed for two years, while continuing to attend Mass every Sunday.  Practicing Buddhism showed me a new path to the experience of God, and though I decided that I needed to explore my own tradition further, I never came all the way back.  I feel that all religions have something to teach us.  During my transition from Buddhism, I returned to a Protestant church, as I never fully accepted the concept of transubstantiation .   I experienced what I considered a call to ministry in 1978 and returned to Northern California to attend Seminary and begin service as a Methodist minister.
I served a church for about eight years, but did not like being told where I would live and what my politics would be.  It almost felt as though I never left the Air Force, so I left active ministry, still filling in as pulpit supply and doing weddings and funerals as requested.  I am currently working as a history teacher and still do pulpit supply for Lutheran and Methodist churches.  I am an active member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church and serve on the church board.  I teach adult Sunday School and just finished an eleven week series on World Religions using Professor Huston Smith's book as a textbook.  On September 3, 2007, I was formally ordained by the Universal Life Church.  I support religions freedom and believe that the ULC provides an incredible forum for interfaith fellowship.
I am currently enjoying my classes at the ULC Seminary and plan to continue with my ministry as a main stream protestant minister.   I do not intend to return to parish ministry, but certainly enjoy pulpit supply and performing weddings.

Online Sermons

By F. James Barker
Certainty

Good morning!!!
This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glade in it.

Opening prayer
Our dear Heavenly Father. You have brought us together and made us into one family, teaching all of us to love one another in Christ. We are Your church. We are different in many ways. In many ways we are more different than we are alike but Your love for us knows no human boundaries. We are family. We are one. We are Your church. Amen.

Message
The stumbling block

Open your Bibles to Matthew 16: 18-19.
You are Peter, and I can guarantee that on this rock I will build my church. And the gates of hell will not overpower it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven.

Now go to Matthew 16: 21-23
From that time on Jesus began to inform his disciples that he had to go to Jerusalem. There he would have to suffer a lot because of the leaders, chief priests, and scribes. He would be killed, but on the third day he would be brought back to life. Peter took Him aside and objected to this. He said, Heaven forbid, Lord! This must never happen to You! But Jesus turned and said to Peter, Get out of My way, Satan! You are tempting me to sin. You aren't thinking the way God thinks but the way humans think.

Jesus blessed Peter and noted his exceptional leadership potential, but then turned to scold Peter as Satan's tool; Jesus great asset quickly became his great liability. Why this rapid turn of events? The cross cast its shadow over Jesus, showing that Peter had no clue to God's ways and thoughts.

The easy church. A cartoon in a church bulletin board announcing, "The light Church", with 24% fewer commitments, 10 minute sermons, 45 minute worship services and only eight commandments: Everything you've wanted in a church and less!

We think giving into temptation means doing something evil and immoral. When Jesus was confronted by Satan in the wilderness and by Peter, the temptation was to avoid the cross. Choose an easier way.

In Matthew 16:20 Jesus warned the disciples that they should tell no one that He was the Christ. Why did Jesus insist they tell no one he was the Christ? People sought a militant, conquering, warrior Christ (Messiah) to destroy their enemies. But God sent a Christ who said, Love your enemies. Matthew 5:44 and who died on a cross. Man's ways and thoughts are so unlike God's! The easy way of conflict looks more attractive than the difficult way of the cross.

Humans seek certainty. Having the answers. Conflict arises as people claim certainty for their answers. Christianity's true power comes not in the type of certainty but in a certainty of God's sacrificial, self giving love expressed in Christ's death and resurrection. God's way is to admit how little we know and to show how much we trust in Him. To live with less certainty and more love!

Concluding prayer
Dear Lord. You are our perfect Father, but we are Your imperfect children full of human failings. We try to go our own way. Be patient with us because we cannot live without Your love. Help us to realize that doing Your will should come first no matter what the present situation is. Give us the strength, the wisdom and the love to be your servants. Amen.

Benediction
Now may the Lord bless you and keep you; make His face shine upon you and be gracious unto you; lift His face unto you and give you peace. In His Name. Amen

F. James Barker

By Rev. Jeremy Barker
God's Word

Hello, my name is Reverend Jeremy Barker.Thank-you for coming to today's worship, and welcome.

Please feel free to take off your shoes and relax as we come together and study Gods word. You know God loves us all and through his son Jesus Christ we are saved.

Actually Jesus was crucified for the sins of human kind. Through His blood on the cross we are saved. And I thank God everyday for his sson Jesus Christ. I am glad that I now understand the importance of prayer and fellowship. Every time I pray or I speak to God I feel so much at peace.

I hope everyone here has the same experiences that I am having. Infact I pray for this everyday. Jesus said, "But thou, when thou fastest, annoint thine head, and wash thy face, that thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.

As I read this scripture, it reminds me that Gods light is always shining on us and we have the opportunity to make the light brighter. -Candles are lighted here for the example of the bright Holy light. Let us pray, Heavenly Father thank-you for this day on earth, your creation. Thank-you for giving us the knowledge and wisdom to hear your message through your words. Help us to understand and be obedient to your ways of fasting, so that we can come closer to having an intimate relationship with your son Jesus Christ. And make our light that shines upon us brighter than ever before. Amen. The passage of matthew chapter six verses seventeen and eighteen are not to be taken as a command against fasting but rather against the misuse of the spiritual exercise of fasting. Fasting that requires spectators is mere acting. Though Jesus Himself instituted no fast for his disciples, voluntary fasting does appear in the early churches. The injunction to anoint thine head relates to the ancient custom of anointing one's head when going to a feast. In other words, Jesus was saying that when we fast we are to do so in secretly to the Lord, While outwardly maintaining the appearance of joy and triumph, which is the end result of true fasting. Excerpt taken from "The King James Study Bible" As Gods word says we should try our best to obey it and continue making our light brighter in and through Jesus Christ. When I was younger my mom made sure I got three meals everyday. As any other great mom she wanted me to grow up and be healthy. Now as I have gotten older I have tried many times to fast but my mom thinks I am starving myself (which I am not). I wanted to tell her I am fasting but I still do not think she will understand what I am doing. And that's ok, it just shows me that she cares about her son. But she made it a little bit harder for me because my Grandmother thought I was Starving myself also. But I just am doing Gods will. Thanks be to God.

Also I feel we benefit more by reading and applying the scriptures. When we open our hearts to worship and God receives us and its our contributions that lets us do many things in Gods name. And please take time to fill out our guest cards and let me know if you or someone you know needs a shoulder to lean on, or just information about our worship service. Let us pray. Heavenly Father, thank-you for opening our hearts and minds to your words through scripture. Please help us maintain your will and spread your love and your sons name Jesus Christ Amen. May the Lord bless you and those around you and keep you until next time we meet. Thank-you for worshiping with us. Have a great and safe week. God bless you all...

There is one question following a summer break that can never be avoided. It is asked in both elementary schools and on college campuses. The typical question, "What did you do over summer break," usually gets typical answers. The student maybe took a vacation, went to the beach, worked or sometimes did nothing at all.

One UNCW student, however, did something different with his break. When asked the inevitable question, he was able to respond that he became an ordained minister.

Senior Stephen Honeycutt now holds the title of the Reverend Stephen Honeycutt. Through the Universal Life Church, he is now an ordained minister that can officiate weddings, baptisms, and other ceremonies.

Honeycutt is not the typical minister. Besides being 21 years old and a college student, he is an English major in the Professional Writing program instead of a philosophy and religion major. He also plans on attending law school after graduation.

"I don't think I will be using my ordainment in my career," Honeycutt said.

Honeycutt said he became an ordained minister so he would be able to officiate his brother's wedding. He also stated that he looks forward to his brother being able to do the same for him. Neither Honeycutt nor his brother is currently engaged, however.

"I would love to officiate any of my friends' weddings too, if they asked," Honeycutt added.

To become an ordained minister, all Honeycutt had to do was apply online through the Universal Life Church. It took around 48 hours for his ordainment to become official. There are no special qualifications, and ordainment is free of charge.

"According to the ULC, 'everyone is equal-the same level of greatness is enjoyed by all.' That's why there was nothing special that I had to do," Honeycutt explained.

The Universal Life Church, which is non-denominational, does offer online training courses. They also have ministerial supplies such as wedding certificates and ID cards that are available for purchase through the Web site.

"The whole experience has been excellent! I recommend this to everyone who is interested," Honeycutt said.

God's Word Is the Truth
By Rev. Erik Strunk

This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit. 1
Corinthians 2:13

To err is human. We see this from big mistakes made in the secular world: the Edsel car, named for Henry Ford's son; the changed flavor of Coca Cola; the Susan B. Anthony dollar issued by the U.S. mint.

People make mistakes also in the church at large and in local congregations. Missions are opened in
unpromising communities, churches are built in wrong locations, investments are not wisely made. Where and
when human beings, imperfect despite their commitment to Jesus Christ, are at work, errors in judgment can
be expected. The Bible tells us this through many examples. Elijah erred when he thought he was the only
one in Israel still true to the Lord in an age of apostasy. John and James were off base in asking Jesus
whether they should invoke fire from heaven to consume an inhospitable Samaritan village. Saint Paul tells
the Galatians that Saint Peter "was clearly in the wrong" when he refused to eat with Gentiles when
Judaizers were around (see Galatians 2:11-12). Saint Paul himself erred on occasion--in the choice of
co-workers, in wanting to preach in a region when the Spirit said no, in being subject to conceit and vanity
because of God's special revelations to him. Also in Christendom today people can err when they follow
their own wisdom in things spiritual.

The apostles, while they did occasionally err in everyday affairs, were totally truthful and correct when the Holy Spirit moved them in their oral preaching and their writings of the New Testament Scripture. When speaking as the oracles of God, they were guarded from error. The Old Testament Scripture and the words of Jesus to them that the Spirit brought back to their remembrance were the source, norm, and standard of the apostles' doctrine.

It is by the written Word, also today, that all who preach and teach in the church are to be examined. If
they are found to be in agreement with Scripture, then they should be honored and faithfully followed because
they proclaim Christ Jesus as the only Savior from sin. The "sola Scripture"--Scripture alone--emphasis of the Reformation keeps this truth before our eyes.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus Christ, keep all Christians steadfast in Your inerrant Word. Amen.

Keep Your Eyes Closed and Pray

Becky, my sweet wife wrote the following dialogue she had with Nate, our blond headed, fun loving boy.

Nate (the 6 year old, in kindergarten): Mom, today Brendan got mad at me.

Mom: Why did he get mad at you, Nate?

Nate: Because I told on him.

Mom: What was he doing that you told on him?

Nate: He didn't have his eyes closed and his head bowed during prayer.

Mom: Nate, how did YOU know he didn't have his eyes closed?

Nate: I saw him

Mom: Nate, that means you had your eyes open during prayer!

Nate: No, I only had ONE eye open!

My wife told me, "I don't think he understands he was doing what
Brendan was." We love our little Nate.

The application is simple and to the point, if we will just keep our
own eyes closed and pray, it will be harder to worry about what
someone else is doing. They wont get mad at you for being
judgmental, and you want know what they were or were not doing,
while you were and were not doing the same.

It is so easy to point out others problems. I have always thought that people who have been pastors have a problem being pastored, because they see things how they would do it.

I told a man one time a few years ago that was being "perceptive" about some short comings of a church. I looked at him and smiled and said, "The only perfect church is the one you will pastor one day." He looked at me like I was strange, and I just laughed inside.

It is time for me, to just close my eyes and pray and reap the benefits of focused prayer, rather than deal with the knowledge that comes from watchful eyes.

Praying with both eyes closed.
